Read Beyond the Beaten Path
Monday, May 23 – Monday, July 25
Summer reading is our fun program designed to engage all age groups in exploring new ideas, books and activities. As you read and engage in activities, you are eligible to win badges and prizes. The best way to track your progress is through the Beanstack app or web site. Beginning May 23, you can start recording your reading time and participate in the activities, located exclusively in our online summer reading software, Beanstack!
Simply register once to participate in library sponsored reading programs and activities all year round!
How Do I Start?
To get the most out of your summer reading experience, we recommend that you create a Beanstack account. Parents can create a family account with all family members rather than create accounts for their children. In Beanstack, you can view the available activities, enter the books you have read, write book reviews and more. You will receive digital badges as you progress and each time you complete two hours of reading, a review or an activity, you’ll earn an entry into the prize drawing of your choice. To register, visit the Beanstack website or login through the app.
Children being read to & independent readers of all ages are encouraged to sign up for the Sycamore Library’s summer reading program, Read Beyond the Beaten Path.
Keep your reading skills sharp this summer by striving to read 2 hours per week & earn a variety of prizes & entries into the grand prize drawing for each level!
Adults 18+ will earn one grand prize entry ticket for every two hours read (maximum 100 hours/50 tickets). Win a vintage Summer Reading Challenge bookmark when registering, and read at least 9 hours to win a free item bookmark from Kuiper’s & a free drink from Common Grounds in Sycamore. Complete the challenge by reading 18 hours and win a paracord keychain and additional ticket to enter into their choice of three grand prizes!
You can print your log from home or grab one at the library and track your reading. Simply click the link below to print!
How the Challenge Helps Kids and Adults
Why join the Summer Reading Challenge? For kids, it prevents the infamous “summer slide” of learning loss. Research shows that kids who participate in library summer reading programs score higher on reading achievement tests than their non-participating peers when the new school year starts.
For adults, the Challenge encourages taking some “me-time” to stretch out with a great read, whether it’s illuminating and educational or eerie and escapist.
We hope you will join us in participating this summer! See you at the library! Full calendar of events HERE
