The Friends of the Sycamore Library is a non-for-profit 501(c)3 volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the library in a variety of ways.
THE MISSION OF THE FRIENDS OF THE SYCAMORE LIBRARY
To promote understanding and appreciation of the Sycamore Library, to advocate for it and generate awareness, while supporting the Library’s efforts to develop and enhance facilities, resources and services for the community.
What We Do
The Friends’ volunteer fundraising efforts support a wide range of library programs and services designed to appeal to the Sycamore community. We hold ongoing sales of books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDS inside the library during regular library hours, as well as special, larger sales throughout the year. The funds we raise support special programming for all ages, Welcome Packs for new youth card holders, wheeled baskets for library users, and much more! We also hold regular recognition events for our dedicated library staff.
Friends Monthly Meetings
The Friends meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the library. Our annual meeting is in December. Guests are welcome. Can’t attend the meetings? There is still a place for you! We have lots of ways to get involved based on how much time you are willing and able to give.

SORTING AND STOCKING
The library’s Book Closet and the library’s entrance areas are available daily during library hours for patrons to purchase books, CDs, DVDs, and audiobooks. To keep these areas stocked, volunteers meet at the library on a weekly basis to examine and sort donated items. The Friends also restock these areas at least twice weekly. And several times a year, the weekly sorting time is used to organize and prepare for bigger book sales. Sorting time is a great opportunity to socialize, chat about books, and meet other like-minded folks.
WORKING AT OUR BOOK SALES
Used book sale shifts are usually two hours and duties include cashiering, restocking bookshelves, and assisting customers.
