Library Cards:
Available Regular Library Hours at the Upstairs Circulation Desk

When applying for a library card please bring the following:
Picture ID with current address.
If your ID does not have your current address, please bring Two (2) recent pieces of mail (example: utility bill) or
Rental Lease or
Checkbook with current address.
If you live within the City Limits of Sycamore, you pre-pay for library service as part of your property taxes or rent and for this reason we need to see an ID with current address to issue a library card.

What about people who don't live within the City Limits?
Homeowners outside of the Sycamore City limits do not pay any property tax dollars to the Sycamore Library.
If you live outside of the City Limits you do have the opportunity to purchase an annual card at the same rate that is paid by residents on their tax bill.  Everyone in your household over 8 years old is entitled to a card when this fee is paid. To purchase a card, please bring a copy of your current tax bill so we can determine the amount it will cost you to purchase a card. Tax bill information can also be found on the DeKalb County website.
If you rent your home, the non-resident renters fee is ONE MONTH'S RENT x .15. Please bring a current rent receipt to apply for a card.

All  information you give us for a library is confidential and we will not share it with others.

However you pay for your library card, when you get a card you get full access to materials in the Sycamore Library, online resources, and you may reserve and have materials sent to Sycamore from PrairieCat libraries all over northern Illinois.

SPLAG - Teen Advisory Group

SPLAG, the Sycamore Public Library Advisory Group, is a teen organization comprised of 7th – 12th graders in the community.  SPLAG runs library book sales and relies on money earned at these sales to fund the group’s activities and purchases.

SPLAG has made many contributions to SPL’s Young Adult Department including a neon sign, an area rug, and other décor to highlight the space.  The group has selected and purchased CDs and DVDs to add to the library’s general collection.

SPLAG members take part in one meeting as well as one additional group activity every month during the school year.  SPLAG meetings are scheduled for the second Wednesday of each month from 3:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  New voices and ideas are always appreciated.

To be approved as a SPLAG member: Download the application and bring it to the Youth Services Desk located on the 1st floor of the Sycamore Public Library. Email Evelyn with any questions at evelynl@sycamorelibrary.org

Teen Volunteering

We are currently looking for teen shelvers in grades 7-12.  Shelvers need to be detail oriented and able to commit to working at least 2 hours per week.   For more information, please contact Young Adult Librarian Evelyn Lorence at 815-895-2500 x32 or evelynl@sycamorelibrary.org

Library Tours

We welcome visits to your Sycamore Public Library! Tours of the Library are available for Sycamore School classes, home school groups, youth groups, and parenting groups. We will tailor the visit to meet your needs. Please plan your visit at least two weeks in advance by making a reservation with Mary Anderson, the Head of Youth Services. You may call her at (815) 895-2500 or send an email to marya@sycamorelibrary.org

Visits to You!

If your group or class cannot make it to the Sycamore Public Library for a visit, then the library can come to you. We welcome the opportunity to speak with all age groups about Library programs and services or to read stories and create customized book talks for your class or group. Library staff is available to visit any special function or program to encourage reading and use of the library. Please call Mary Anderson at (815) 895-2500 at least two weeks prior to the desired visit date to make arrangements.

Foreign Language Collection

The Foreign Language collection is small but growing in depth. We have focused most of our resources on the Spanish language. We have dual language books with the story in both English and Spanish. There are also materials on the Mexican culture and festivals of Spain. We hope that you will share the colorful and complex cultures of the world with your children.

TumbleBook Library

TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.
