Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 4:00-6:00pm in the SPL Board Room.

This discussion will focus on real-world applications of the technological concepts covered in the book.

Photo Club Show-and-Tell:
Wednesday, February 1, 2012 @ 7:00 p.m.
It's show-and-tell time again. All photo club members are welcome to bring 3 -7 images on a flash drive to share with the group. You can show off your January Assignment images or any images you have take recently that you want to share. If you want tips on how to improve an image, bring that and ask questions. This is a great time to see what everyone has been up to and learn how to see the world through new eyes.

January Assignments: Sunrise/Sunset, macro, and/or ice. Have fun. be creative, and experiment.

Sycamore Public Library Photography Club meets on the first and third Wednesday from 7 - 9 p.m. of every month in the big meeting room.

Please create a nametag to wear to the meetings. Your name and your Flickr Name should be on the name tag.

December Assignments: Bokeh and Refelections. Your reflections can be those that  that make us reflect. For an understanding of Bokeh click here. There are lots of examples on the web. There are also many great books on photography at the library. While the term bokeh is not used, there are lots of chapters on blurr and depth of field. All you need is a library card to borrow the photography books.

Demystifying Yoga with Debbie Brandt:

Does the idea of yoga cofuse and confound you?  After all, what is yoga?  There are so many styles of yoga. How do you know which is best for you? Let local yoga instructor Debbie Brandt take the mystery out of yoga for you. Debbie will demonstrate the benefits of yoga along with some basics.

This spring, the theme for the Sycamore Public Library Book Club will be "It's a Mystery to Me."  Everyone loves a good mystery, and we have chosen five excellent representatives of the genre.  Books can be picked up at the Circulation Desk one month before the Book Club meets.

High School Textbooks

Is your backpack too heavy at the end of the day? Would it be nice if you could leave your school books behind and still be able to get your homework done? Now you can! The High School has provided the Sycamore Public Library with one copy of each class textbook. During regular library hours anyone may come in and use these books to read the assigned chapter or answer the assigned questions. The books are for in library use only, but you are welcome to copy needed pages if you prefer to work at home.

Outreach Service

Sycamore residents who are unable to get to the library on their own may arrange to have materials delivered to and picked up from their home. This service is available on a short term or permanent basis. For more information and to find out if you are eligible, please contact Debbie Norris or Jeannie Barry at 895-2500.

Reader's Advisory

If you are sick of reading the same old thing or you finished a favorite series and don't know what to read next, the staff at the Sycamore Public Library are available to help with reading suggestions. Stop in and talk to the Staff at the Adult Services desk. The staff will spend some time getting to know your reading likes and dislikes and then will help you find some new books to read. To arrange an appointment for reader's advisory service, contact Debbie Norris at 895-2500.

Computer Classes

The Sycamore Public Library offers free hands-on computers classes on the most popular software applications, like Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer.  Watch the Adult Services page for class announcements.

One Community Reading Together

Every summer, the Sycamore Public Library is proud to offer the One Community Reading Together program.  The library staff chooses one book for the entire Sycamore community to read, share and discuss.  Besides offering many copies of the book, the Library has book discussions and programming related to the book.  In recent years, we have done
