March/April Assignment: Farm Life
February/March Assignment: Black and White
January Assignment: Artifical Light. Use your flash, use your stobes, turn on the lamp or flashlight and light up that photograph.
December Assignment: Orange Bowl
November Assignment: Self Portrait
October Assignment: Use Your Flash. Yes, that's it, use your flash. Practice, test it out and learn how to make your flash work for you.
August/September Assignment: Sell It! Practice your marketing and/or advertising skills this month and photograph It like you want to sell it.
July/August Assignment: What is it? Where is it? Look at things in a whole new way. Can you tell what it is? Can you trick your friends and photo club cohorts?
June Assignment: Black and white and/or egg. Let you imagination go with the egg and take some time to look at the world through the beautiful tones, lights, darks and inbetween of black and white photography.
May Assignment: The Night Sky.
April Assignment: To process or not to process. Part One: Focus on creating the best in-camera image that you can possibly take. Is your horizon line straight? Can you print or show the image without cropping it? Did you get the color balance correct? How was that exposure? Part two: Check out what your editing software can do. What does that well shot image look like in black and white? What do I create if I play with special effects?
March Assignment: Get Your Science On: Fibbonacci, Pi, Gravity, Time Travel, E=MC2, put on your science geek hat, grab your camera and dabble in the world of theories and hypothesies.

Whether it's a Nook, a Kindle, an iPad or an iPod, or any kind of tablet, e-reader, smart phone or mp3 player, we can show you how to download books for free. No appointment is necessary.  Please bring your devices and any cables that came with it.

Training is available:

There are 99 Downloadable Magazine titles for you to download and read on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. All you need is a Sycamore Library Card and a few minutes to set up your Zinio Accounts. We recommend that you take a few moment to read the User Guide as you set up your account. (Click Here for the Guide) You must set up two accounts. the first one is to verify that you have a library card and it sets you up as a Sycamore Library Zinio patron. The second one  is to join Zinio.com so the magazines will actually download on your devices. Once you have the two accounts set up, getting magazines is as easy as a click of the button.


Tax Forms:
The Federal 1040 Instruction books have arrived!

Tax Forms have arrived. We have a limited supply. When we run out, we will not get any more copies in paper. You can print your own from the following websites. You can even file online without printing anything. If you need to print out of forms at the library, there is a 10¢ per page fee.

The IRS website at www.IRS.gov is the most up-to-date source for federal tax products and information.

The State of Illinois strongly recommends people file electronically.  More information can be found at tax.illinois.gov/taxforms/.

High School Textbooks

Is your backpack too heavy at the end of the day? Would it be nice if you could leave your school books behind and still be able to get your homework done? Now you can! The High School has provided the Sycamore Public Library with one copy of each class textbook. During regular library hours anyone may come in and use these books to read the assigned chapter or answer the assigned questions. The books are for in library use only, but you are welcome to copy needed pages if you prefer to work at home.

Computer Classes

The Sycamore Public Library offers free hands-on computers classes on the most popular software applications, like Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer.  Watch the Adult Services page for class announcements.

Reader's Advisory

If you are sick of reading the same old thing or you finished a favorite series and don't know what to read next, the staff at the Sycamore Public Library are available to help with reading suggestions. Stop in and talk to the Staff at the Adult Services desk. The staff will spend some time getting to know your reading likes and dislikes and then will help you find some new books to read. To arrange an appointment for reader's advisory service, contact Debbie Norris at 895-2500.

One Community Reading Together

Every summer, the Sycamore Public Library is proud to offer the One Community Reading Together program.  The library staff chooses one book for the entire Sycamore community to read, share and discuss.  Besides offering many copies of the book, the Library has book discussions and programming related to the book.  In recent years, we have done
